Cascade warbirds7/27/2023 She was bought by her current owner in October of 2011, and was ferried up to Everett, WA where she’s hangared at Paine Field (KPAE) and flies regularly with the local warbird nuts, the Cascade Warbirds. Bought by a gentleman in TX in 2007, she was put through a beautiful restoration, to include a new interior, a fresh paint job, and a life extension inspection. Retired in 1999, she was disassembled, sent to FL and reassembled in 2000, and registered as N149DF. Piaggio P.1033-G4/DA 3-bladed, constant speedīorn in 1963 as S/N 348, she went directly to Switzerland to serve as an ab-initio trainer for Swissair as HB-EBQ. A few more were delivered to the Uganda Airforce (P 149U´s). SWISSAIR, for example, bought five “Piggi´s” (P 149E´s) for their now abandoned flight academy in Zurich, Switzerland. Most of them were military, but a few examples went to private customers. (Powered by BMW Engine S/N´s start with a B-) The FHC B-25 was reportedly the first to be. Even the engines had been license-built by BMW in Bavaria. In 1962 or 1963, Cascade Drilling Company of Alberta purchased the aircraft and converted it to a water bomber. They carry Focke Wulf Data-plates and S/N´s from 001 to 190. Here another 190 examples have been produced for the German Military. Thereafter, the type certificate was sold to Focke Wulf and the whole production-line was moved to Bremen/Germany. They carry Piaggio-Dataplates and S/N´s between 250 and 325 but were put together in Germany. The German Forces got 72 “Piggi´s” as unassembled kits from the Italian factory. The German Forces picked the aircraft as a trainer, ahead of the Beechcraft T34 Mentor and the Saab 91 Safir, mainly because of its big cabin, since the plane would also serve as a liaison aircraft for the German Air force and the German Navy. During the same time period on Friday, two C-17 Globemaster III aircraft flown by pilots from the 62nd Airlift Wing West Coast Demonstration Team will be flying a special Salute to American Heroes to say thank you to all of the American heroes at the forefront of the battle against COVID-19. The weather forecast for Friday is excellent. All are considered warbirds, as the models have been used by air forces around the world. The majority of the planes were manufactured by North American Aviation. Most of the aircraft are pilot owned, with one contributed by Historic Flight Foundation. The pilots for the flight are all volunteers, members of Cascade Warbirds. The planes will then turn northwest to fly over Bremerton Naval Shipyard, where the flight will end. The formation of twelve warbirds, flying with the callsign Victory Flight, plans to depart Arlington Airport promptly at 11:30AM and fly a route south over Naval Base Everett, Paine Field, South Snohomish County, North King County, Downtown Seattle, Boeing Field, South King County, and down to McChord AFB. This is part of a national effort by the Veterans Airlift Command’s Tribute Wing and is being coordinated by Cascade Warbirds Commanding Officer John “Smokey” Johnson.
